Christmas Christmas Time Is Here

Finally, after a long long wait “Medium” returns with a two hour season premier tonight. Patricia Arquette’s husband (I think they got married) hottie Thomas Jane is costarring in tonights episode as the ghost of a dead ex.

Something else begins very soon on television . . . Christmas! With Thanksgiving coming up next week it means the start of Christmas specials. Of course it will all start with the holy grail of Christmas on TNT “A Christmas Story.” Then it’s over to ABC Family Channel for the 25 days of Christmas beginning in December.

With Christmas also coming up it is time to start thinking about decorations. On one of my old blogs I talked a lot about how I’ve been getting the Thomas Kinkade Nativity Set, which is one of those by mail collectibles that you get pieces every month or two to. As it stands I think I have about 8 million figures. Well not really, but I have a lot. I’m not sure where I’m going to put them all! If I forgo the creche (stable) then I can put them on the fireplace mantel. It is probably the best place, the kitten can’t get to them and I can actually look at them. Wherever I put them I’ll be sure to post photos.

Switching topics completely, it seems my paper was better than I thought. I got an email today from an archaeologist well known for his work in the area I’m doing my research in. While he wasn’t at the meetings I was at this past weekend, somehow he heard of my paper and emailed me requesting a copy. I got to get to work polishing it up I guess.

Honesty Is The Best Policy

The stress and the travel finally all hit me yesterday. I think the major rainstorm yesterday didn’t help either. I got hit with a huge migraine. I was pissed because I was supposed to go out to dinner with the BF and his nieces and I had to bail. Grrr! I’m still trying to keep it away, I shouldn’t even be looking at the PC.

In other news Nikko has been a bad boy again! He chewed up the cord to my webcam! It isn’t a cord I can replace either as it’s attached to the camera. I emailed the company asking how much it would cost to have it fixed, as it was a rather expensive camera. I guess they must have got a good chuckle out of the old “My dog ate it” excuse because they are sending me a replacement free of charge.

The Return of ABBA! Well Kind Of

This is so huge! Its the first time the Abba Girls have gotten back together since the break-up of the group. Woo hoo!

Madonna is set to go into the studio with Abba stars Agnetha Faltskog and Anni-Frid ‘Frida’ Lyngstad after holding talks with the Swedish pop legends.

The Dancing Queens agreed to record material with Madonna after being impressed with her sampling of Gimme Gimme Gimme on her Hung Up single.

A source tells The Sun newspaper, “Madonna has been in contact with Agnetha and Frida for a few months.

“Madonna was the driving force behind the idea because she was so happy with her sample of Gimme Gimme Gimme on Hung Up.

“Agnetha and Frida loved it, they really warmed to Madonna for rejuvenating one of their most famous tracks.”

Abba songwriters Bjorn Ulvaeus and Benny Anderson will not be involved.

The Hotel In The Middle Of Nowhere

These aren’t the greatest photos. It was overcast most of the time I was at the hotel in the middle of nowhere. The hotel was pretty big, and next to it was a convention center. With the archaeologists as well as a dog show going on it was full, as was the parking lot. I tried to get a surrounding show of the area but it was hard. While it was on a hill, it was essentially in a crater on the hill and I couldn’t really get very good shots of the surrounding nothingness without getting cars. Well I could have, I was just too lazy to walk.

The dog show was going on at the convention center next door. I wish I could have spent more time there. I missed the Cairn and Westies showings. The Westies went on when I was presenting my paper, and I didn’t get up early enough to see the Cairns.

Talk Sex With Sue

Only recently did we finally get the Oxygen Network, why it took so long I don’t know. Now not only can I watch Xena again, but “Talk Sex With Sue.” This show comes on Sunday nights at 11pm. I first saw this when the BF and I were in Florida on our first vacation together. We watched this little old lady hosting a call in sex show and getting very frank and graphic with her callers. It was hilarious! Now I get to watch Sue again. If you haven’t seen the show I highly recommend it. It may not be for everyone, especially those conservative when it comes to sex talk. Honestly though, everyone needs to watch this show. The callers often call in with some outrageous questions and Sue gives them no holds barred answers. Last night I was aghast at one of the questions. An adult woman, you could tell she was an adult by her voice which almost sounded like she was thirties or older, called in and asked “Is it true that if you abstain from sex for a year that you get your virginity back.” Sue of course told her no way, but I was just in shock that this woman asked this question. Where do people get these ideas? It goes to show how uneducated so many people in this country are when it comes to sex. It’s no wonder so many people are against the abstinence only programs being pushed in schools today. My state recently rejected millions of federal dollars because it required the teaching of ONLY abstinence and nothing else in schools.

Home Sweet Home

I’m finally back home, yeah! The train ride back was an all day experience again, but it wasn’t as long as the one up there. I’m taking a day or two to relax and lounge about before getting back to school work again.

Last night was a slow night. The people I presented with were all, shall we say, feeling the effects of partying like rock stars the night before. My adviser was feeling like he was coming down with the flu, and I was feeling blah after having been a nervous wreck all day. I bummed around the hotel and my room most of yesterday evening. Some very drunk archaeologist who recognized me from my paper basically tried to talk to me in the hotel restaurant. He was going off about New Jersey and how everyone talks trash about peopel from there . . . or something like that. I really wanted to just walk away from him, but I was polite . . . even though he basically burped in my face as he was talking. Honestly I thought he was going to puke on me, I kept trying to back away. He also started unbuckling his pants at one point, which made me think he was going to just start whizzing right there. I wanted to ask what he was doing, but then he sped off to the bathroom which was behind me. Phew! I took that opportunity to run for it.

It

I present the paper, it’s over! Yeah! As with most stuff I do I felt it could have been a lot better. I thought I was going to pass out when I first went to give it, yikes! I soon got over the public speaking fear though. I got a lot of people I don’t know tell me it was a really good paper and a few people asked me to email it to them if I wouldn’t mind.

Anyways I’m off to see if I can find the people from school who are also here in this hotel hell in the middle of nowhere.

Oh I went to the dog show for a bit today. I didn’t get to see my doggie breeds though, they were to go on when I was giving my paper πŸ™

Leaving On That Midnight Train

Uhg! I’m so ready for the weekend to be over. How often do you hear someone say that? The paper has been written, it’s a bit too long. I’ll figure out what to take out tomorrow. Emily is proofing it now for me. I might just look over her comments tonight, do a proof in the morning and print it out. I’m sure I will obsess over it on the entire train ride and all of tomorrow night in my hotel room. Fun!

My train leaves at 11:30, which means I have to head out about 9:30 to make sure I get their in time. It can take an hour to get to Philly’s Amtrak from where I am. I want to make sure I get there ahead of schedule πŸ™‚ This of course means getting up around 6 or 7am to make sure everything is packed and deal with the paper. Ahhhh! I really hope the hotel has a business center I can print this sucker out on again, I’m sure I’m going to need to do that.

Last night I had sleeping issues because of stress no doubt. I also had some interesting dreams. In one dream I was fighting off “moms” in Target in order to get a Wii. My BF says the fact that I’m dreaming about it is almost as bad as Cartman on South Park. The other dream I can recall was a cruise dream. I was on a cruise and the door to my cabin was coming off the hinges and wouldn’t stay locked. I couldn’t go anywhere until the people came to fix it as my new laptop was in the cabin and I didn’t want it getting stolen.

Weird.

Running Out Of Time!

I have a pretty final draft of my paper to give at the conference this weekend done. I want to try and add a few more things to it, but the problem is I’m pushing 16 double spaced pages as is and I only have twenty minutes. It takes me about 1 minute and 30 seconds to get through a page alone. I may have to cut some stuff, we’ll see. I’ll probably decide that the night before with a practice run, alone in my hotel room.

I decided I’m training it up to the conference, booked the ticket and everything. It may be an all day trip, but I can sleep, I can listen to music, I can play some handheld games or I can choose to read. I should chose to read and work on the dissertation honestly. I’ve been consumed with the conference paper the past week, not that I haven’t gotten tons of new ideas for the dissertation from it. It hasn’t been a total loss.

One thing I have yet to decide is if I will stay at the conference Saturday night. I present Saturday afternoon, the session ends about 4pm. I have a hotel room that night if I need it, or I can abandon my money and just train it home. Honestly I will probably make that decision based on how I feel. I love staying in hotels, but I’ll be mostly on my own in a place where I’d rather not be. I wouldn’t get home till probably 1am Sunday morning, but at least come Sunday I have the day to myself and not stuck on a train traveling all day.

I finally broke down and ordered a new laptop today, deciding to go with HP. Here is hoping nothing bad happens to this one till the new one arrives in about 2 weeks.

That’s about it for today. I’m about to go sit down and read some articles to see if there is anything else I can use in my paper, then I’m hitting the hay. I have a lot to do tomorrow.
