Jesus Lights 2010!

So here are some quick light photos. Stills don’t do it justice, cause everything blinks. I need to get a movie of it. The icicles along the top all look like they are melting. Down below on the railings are more icicles, but these blink, flash, drip and have a more complex pattern of lights. The snowflakes just blink, and one strand needs replacing still (I need the ladder damnit!). Finally the colored lights around the windows run through a million different color patterns.

Sequestered With A Woman With No Lips!

John got called for jury duty and is at the all day selection process. He somehow always gets called, but normally escapes duty somehow. This time they got him. He’ll know by the end of the day if he has to serve on a jury or not. I keep teasing him that he’s gunna get sequestered in a room with a lady with no lips and a big box of June Allison bladder pads πŸ™‚

I have 10 some pounds of turkey sitting in my fridge. Would anyone like some? I really don’t know what I was thinking, other than I’d never cooked a real turkey before, and the idea of grilling it made it a fun challenge. I’ve been having turkey sandwiches for two days now and I’m over it. I’d give it to the dogs, but it would probably give them the sharts. I’ve been told to make turkey soup out of it. I guess I’ll have to look up a recipe. I’m not much of a soup guy though, unless it’s egg drop or miso soup . . . tofuuuuuu!

Moo Kitty is now on my every last nerve. He is stilling peeing around the house, and we now realize he is doing it out of spite and to try and regain his lost control. Several times he’s done it right as I’m standing there too . . . the little shit. He’s no longer alpha kitty and he does not like that. The other three cats are now terrorizing him. Even the old 14 year old cat is jumping on him! I just don’t know what to do. I told John how are we to go away in January for a week, we’ll come back and he’ll have peed on everything!

Anyway, I got the Jesus lights on the front of the house. I’ll take some photos tonight and post them. I really want some for the bushes, but I don’t want to spend anymore money on lights. John wants to use the purple halloween lights, but I said they aren’t Christmasy enough. Maybe if we mixed some white in, but like I said, I don’t feel like spending anymore money.

I haven’t even started on the inside yet. I’ll do that later this week I guess (after the house gets cleaned).

*Update* He didn’t make the jury.

So Thanksgiving dinner is underway! I am off to a late start. Went out last night, got home way late, slept in way late. Oops! John won’t be home till 4ish anyways.

I shall continue to update this with pictures or disaster stories as the day goes on . . .

On the menu is Turkey of course. Not only is this my first time cooking a semi-real turkey, but I decided to be difficult and grill it. We’ll see how that one goes. I have the oven to pop it in as a back-up, and a turkey loin thingy as a real back-up!

The turkey is looking very golden, I just can’t seem to get it to 170 degrees . . . grrr! It may have to get popped in the oven!

I’m also making twice baked potatoes, which I learned how to do from my friend Laura πŸ™‚ They are cooking in the oven as we speak. They are done and look to die for!

Also to be made near the end, Pillsbury Crescents, some cornbread with cranberry sauce (cause I hate that stuff on it’s own) and Stove Top! Emily thinks it’s blasphemy, but I loves it.

For desert we’ll either do brownies or chocolate lava cakes. No I didn’t make a pie. I am not a pie fan, and I don’t feel the need to have one. Plus John I’m sure has had enough of pies at the farm the past few days.

Thanksgiving Plans

First up, the shoutbox is back! After I could not figure it out, I emailed my awesome hosts and within 5 minutes had a reply and everything was fixed. If you ever need a new host, I highly recommend them. Anytime I’ve had an issue I’ve had a response within 5-10 minutes from them.

Okay moving on, it looks like Thanksgiving will be me cooking dinner again. I had planned on it, but this year I’m actually cooking for two (maybe three). John’s mom has gone to Texas every year for the past few years. His sister, the kids, and the thing have been going to one of the thing’s other grown kids (1st marriage) house. John and his brother usually get invites to dine with a family of a guy that works at the farm. I went one year, but skipped last year as I had started my boycott and simply found it awkward. Plus I also just don’t like going to spend Thanksgiving with someone else’s family that I really don’t know. Even more awkward!

This year John’s brother is going elsewhere, and the farm guy and family are going to see his huge family up in Boston. So it might just be me and John, though the brother might always decide to stay . . . who knows.

I bought a small young turkey (the kind with the legs removed) which only is about 11 pounds. I thought that was plenty for me and maybe John. His brother however has a large appetite. I planned to attempt to grill it, but wasn’t sure how well that would turn out. I had planned turkey burgers in case it didn’t :-\ I’m now thinking maybe I need a backup cheap turkey just to be safe! – – – Though I don’t need to end up with an excess of turkey honestly.

Maybe I’ll finally look up what Turkey Hash is (“Christmas Story”) and make it?

John is also very excited to see “Burlesque,” so we’ll probably be checking it out as well.

Blog Issues

Having some technical issues with the blog (that have been building for awhile now). Not sure how I’m going to solve them right now. I have a feeling at some point I’m going to have to do a mass delete and reinstall everything from backups. A pain in the ass and one I don’t have time right now to deal with.

My shoutbox got messed up this morning as I was tooling around, and now I can’t seem to get it working again :-\ I’m trying, and may have to go with a more basic one. Otherwise if it pops back up sometime soon, then I figured out what was wrong!

Review: The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet

So on Monday I finally got to see the last film in the “Millenium” trilogy, “The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet’s Nest.” I’m still trying to process it. I don’t know if I was disappointed in the film, or if I have that “it’s the end of a trilogy” feeling that I’ll soon feel about Harry Potter (which yes isn’t a trilogy, but same point).

Unlike the other movies, there was a lot less thrills, action and butt kicking. In fact Noomi Rapace (Lisbeth Salander) kicked NO butt in this film. How is that possible ?!?! I think that was the biggest let down. In fact watching this film now makes me WANT to read the books to see how the final book may have really ended.

The final film, I felt, had few shocks or surprises, unlike the first two. This one was more of a court/legal drama than anything. I felt like everything that was revealed, we knew or had an inkling about already. That’s why I think I felt disappointed. Yes it was good to see justice served. We knew that was coming though . . . where were the shocks and revelations we weren’t expecting? The first two movies delivered there.

No, that’s not just it. SPOILER AHEAD! I think I hoped Lisbeth would have ended up with her doctor from the final film. I thought that’s what they were leading up to, but it never happened. In fact the end to the whole thing, while I guess true to Lisbeth, fell flat in the expected happy Hollywood ending. Since this wasn’t a Hollywood film, I guess it wasn’t expected or needed, and says something about how the Hollywood ending is overrated . . .

I really wonder how the third book panned out in comparison, and now I need to read them all. First though I need to read through the rest of the Percy Jackson books, then I probably need to finally read the Sookie Stackhouse books. I have a list before I can get to the Millenium books. With the success of the films, and the fact they are being redone for American audiences, the original author is now contemplating a fourth book (though doesn’t that mean a new trilogy really, so 3 new books?).

For those who have invested in the movies, it’s a no-brainer, see it. Just don’t be expected to be completely fulfilled (unless you really like the anti-climactic ending genre).

Holidays! Oh Yeah, Oh Yeah, Celebrates!

The holidays are all quickly approaching, and I really need time to slow down just a little for me right now. So much going on!

Anyway, Moo Kitty had his second surgery. He seems to be feeling and doing much better. He still has to gag down nasty pills. He is also still peeing in places he shouldn’t. He has a few places he likes to go. It’s odd too, as he’s not squatting and peeing. He’s shaking his butt and it dribbles out. I almost feel like he’s trying to spray and mark territory, which is why I feel he’s doing this out of spite more than anything.

I’m going to go buy a squirt gun and nail him every time he tries it from now on. Healing time and sympathy is over! He is stinking up the house and just being a shit as far as I’m concerned.

Anyway, I have wanted a pair of the below for years, but never bought them. I found some fairly cheap and finally splurged. Adult jammies with the feet just like when we were kids! Well almost. These button up, so no getting the peepee caught in a zipper.

I doubt I will wear them all that much honestly, as it isn’t something I can go walking the dogs in easily πŸ™‚ Well maybe with a coat and some . . . gasp . . . crocks it might work. That however is just a fashion disaster on so many levels.

I really got them to sit around in and watch Christmas specials and movies in πŸ˜›

Real Housewife Of New Jersey

My friend Keith came to visit this weekend, per our Halloween tradition. We also hit a haunted house. We went to Pennhurst Asylum, which opened for the first time in 20 years to be a haunted house.

The asylum was a state school for children and run from 1908 to 1987(ish) before a lawsuit shut it down do to horrible conditions and abuse the children endured for years. The reopening of it for a haunted house, of course, caused great controversy. Many people in the town where it was felt it was horrible because of what went on there, even suing to try and stop it. They lost though. The place is also a well known haunted location. You can find tons of stuff on youtube about it, as well as various clips from ghost hunting shows that have gone there.

Last night I went out with friends to a local club. It was so much fun, but I am hurting today! I also now have to start my diet and fitness routine and be good about it. I have a little over 2 months to try and lose about 20 pounds. Ack!

I dressed up as a REAL Housewife of New Jersey. I threw the costume together last minute. It was an old wig I had, costume jewelry and then a leopard print snuggie πŸ™‚
