So I’m still thinking about getting that new car (well, probably a nice used car lol). I’ll be getting it by February most likely, if not before. Thanks for everyone who left comments on my last post! Anyways, I’ve decided I am going to try and go for a mini-wagon type car. I will most likely go for a Toyota or a Honda, prices for new ones are reasonable and having driven both and had them in the family, I know they are great cars. A used 2005 model will probably be a good bit less than a new 2006 too.

Subarus while nice, are bit more than I’d like to pay for.

The Volkswagon Golf is actually affordable, but it’s a 2 doorer. I usually don’t like 2 doorers much, and it’s my main issue with the Honda miniwagon at the moment.

Saturns don’t make wagons, so they are out. I’m not going for an SUV, too big and a gas guzzler. Cheverlotte does make a miniwagon, but it’s so much cheaper than the competition that it frightens me!

Kia’s are the cheapest of the lot. Anyone have experience with these? Some quick reviews say the new ones are pretty good, but previous models weren’t all that great. Apparently the Kia Spectra5 is currently the “it” car with lots of the younger crowd. It is nice looking, but looks isn’t something you should put at the top of a car shopping list 😉

  1. when you say wagon, do you mean station wagon?…if so saturn used to make one a few years back, i am sure of it, because when I was a nanny and I lived in NY, I had one, (it was my nanny car, LOL) I loved it! great on gas and roomy!

  2. Yeah a station wagon 🙂 But I would rather have one of the mini-wagons where they don’t have the full back, just the small space and you fold down the backseats to make more room.

  3. Oh, I looked at Saturns site, they don’t have wagons on their now, at least not for 2006. So maybe there are some used ones.

However when using carmax, I was shocked at how much used certified cars cost! For what I want, they are only a few thousand less than a new car! And these are 2000-2002 models!

  4. eeeek! that bites! I have a huge suv and am looking to downsize I want a VW Jetta wagon desiel. I have heard great things about them, but hard to find where I live in oregon.

  5. I just want to throw my 2 cents in about Volkswagens. My Dad, Uncle, and both Grandpas are/were Volkwagen mechanics. They have a lot of problems, mainly electrical. I myself had a Jetta and I spent more money fixing it than I spent on it. The problems aren’t just limited to the older ones either. My Grandma and Mother-in-law have a new Beetle. Both of them have electrical problems. I’m sorry to be a downer, but I just wanted to give you a heads up.

  6. I am pretty familar with volks myself, my dad went to Volkswagon Of America school, (and owned a repair shop for 20 years)and our family has owned just about every make of VW out there. (makes from the 60’s to the 80’s) I do know the newer ones have had some electical problems, but I am going to have to disagree with you on the rest. Vintage VW’s Rock! I am the current owner of a 77 bus, and I love it!
