Grandpa’s Head

Another one from Dustin’s Spooky Files! This one really isn’t as much of a ghost story as it is a psychic dream. I do have more ghost stories to tell, as our family seems to attract them 🙂

When I was in the 7th grade, my grandparents went to New York to visit relatives up there for Christmas. Being a kid, I didn’t think much of the fact that they had been gone for awhile. One night however I had a strange dream. I walked out of my house and in the middle of my street stood my grandfather. He looked at me, clutched his head, and fell to his knees. He said something about his head hurting very bad, and then fell completely to the ground.

The next day my mother sat me down to have a talk. Grandpa was very sick, and the doctors didn’t know what was wrong with him. He had been in the hospital for some time, and they believed he was probably going to die. My mother and father had known about the illness for some time, but had not told my brother and I. My mom was telling me know because my father was preparing to head to NY to be with my grandfather, and she knew I would ask questions. I told my mother about my dream, I was certain the cause of the illness had to do with my grandfather’s head. My mom said the doctors had checked him out completely, nothing was wrong that they could find. All they knew is he had come down with pneumonia and rapidly gotten sicker.

A few days after my dad had gone to NY, my grandfather miraculously did a 180 and was awake and getting better. Again, the doctors did not know what was going on.

My grandfather soon became ill again very quickly, and within a few days passed away. The doctors never figured out exactly what happened to him, but apparently there was something amiss with his brain. He had a cancer like virus of some sorts that they had never seen, and they believe his pneumonia triggered it. They claimed it was probably something he had had for a long time but was dormant, and the pneumonia brought it out of its dormancy. Hooky I know, but that is the best reason they could give.

Dreams, they are weird and mysterious things. This was not the only time I had dreamt something that was to come true or really happening, but it was the most significant. Often my dreams give me signals of seemingly pointless events that happen a day or two in the future, and I usually don’t put it together until the event occurs. The only time it has really come in handy was when I dreamt the questions on a history test 🙂 And no, I have no way of controlling this, it just happens. I’m also no Allison Dubois. I can however control my dreams if I choose to.

Puppy Names Update

This one was too cute for me note to share. It was suggested to me that if I’m able to get a little black boy Cairn Terrier puppy that I should name him Pauper. Get it? Princess and Pauper!

He Was A Sk8r Boi

Because I’m, how shall I put this, feeling a bit Nicolish tonight, I’ve decided to share a blast from the past with you. This is me, and yes, I was a skate rat. In fact, this is me in the process of growing my hair out. I grew it all the way down to my jawline believe it or not.

Pictured with me is one of my childhood dog’s Jenny. She was a mix of German Shepard and Siberian Husky. She was such a great dog, and if I could find such a mix again today I’d grab it in a second. Unfortunately we lost her way to early due to nose cancer.

The photo was taken at my grandmother’s house, now my mom’s house. Hence the plastic covered couch!

Princess Goes To School

I finally got around to enrolling Princess in obedience school. We’ve only been to two classes, and so far we haven’t learned too much I don’t already know. However it is things she needs work on, like sitting when she’s told and walking on a leash properly. I really need to work with her on these commands, as I don’t want to get behind when we get to more advanced commands. She is a smart dog, and she learns quickly. However she soon becomes bored with playing “come” and “sit” and looks at me as if to say “I don’t want to play that game anymore.”

Today we played “Pass the puppy” to see how well our dogs would do in the care of others. As predicted, she listened to everyone else just wonderfully, and they all told me what a great dog she was. I wish she’d listen to me! I’m usually the last person she listens to. ARG!

Even if she doesn’t do too hot, I can take what I’ve learned and use it to train the new puppy come fall. I’m going to work hard with the new puppy and not let him or her get away with murder, which Princess often does because she’s just so cute.

Twins

So I tuned into Molly Stanton (Charity, Passions) and Sarah Gilbert’s new show “Twins” on the WB tonight. It was cute, and actually kind of funny. There seemed to be a lot of butt humor. I’ll keep watching it I think. I just really like seeing both Molly and Sarah back on my TV screens. Though what is up with Sarah’s voice? Is that because of her oh so obvious nose job?

As for Melanie Griffith, my how she has fallen. Once a movie star, now a WB sitcom star. Poor thing! She was kinda funny though.

Ninten-doh!

Nintendo has officially revealed its new controller for their upcoming system “Revolution.”

Um . . . . What the hell! Nintendo describes the controller as . . .

The intuitive, pioneering interface allows players to run, jump, spin, slide, shoot, steer, accelerate, bank, dive, kick, throw and score in a way never experienced in the history of gaming.

“The feeling is so natural and real, as soon as players use the controller, their minds will spin with the possibilities of how this will change gaming as we know it today,” explains Satoru Iwata, Nintendo president. “This is an extremely exciting innovation – one that will thrill current players and entice new ones.”

When picked up and pointed at the screen, the controller gives a lightning-quick element of interaction, sensing motion, depth, positioning and targeting dictated by movement of the controller itself.

Apparently the controller functions sort of as a mouse but in 3D space. Sounds interesting, but I don’t know! It just looks so awkward. I think Nintendo, in trying too hard to be different, is going to hurt themselves.

Martha Martha Martha!

So NBC decided to move Days from 12 noon to 1pm in my area, I guess to be more in tune with the rest of the country. They put on Martha Stewart’s new show in its old time slot, I guess hoping people would watch it. Have you watched it? I tried, really I did. So far I have to say it is AWFUL. I normally get up and walk off to do something while it is on because it is so boring.

Now I like Martha, she has a je ne sais quois about her. She is one of those people you know just has some kinky sex dungeon in her house behind a fake wall or something (Martha would call it a faux wall).

When I first moved to the Philly area for school “Martha Stewart Living” came on at 2 am in the morning. Because I had pretty bad insomnia back then I would watch her show. Yeah some of you might be saying “Why Martha?” One reason was because I only had basic cable, 30 some stations, and at 2am nothing was ever on except “The Mummy” on TNT for the 14 millionth time or the Jenny Jones show. Frankly, I had seen all the teen goth makeovers I could handle from Jenny, so I got addicted to watching Martha. It was actually a cute little show. I did learn a lot of handy little tips, and I always liked her “good things.” I was also a crafty kid, so I enjoyed watching her make stuff like Christmas decorations.

This new “Martha” is not that old show. They have tried to turn her into some Rosie O’Donnell thing, which she is so not. Maybe they need to fire Martha from her boring show and hire Anna Gastayer from SNL to come in and play Martha. That would totally rock!

I am however looking forward to “Martha’s Apprentice.” I normally hate reality shows, and I never watched “The Donald’s” version. I will tune in to see Martha be a bad ass bitch though!

Working on a 100 Things List

If your a blog reader then you probably have seen one of these before. It’s a list of 100 items about the author of the blog which often reads like a large ramble. I thought it would be fun to work on one for the blog. It would shed a little bit more on my life than the “About Dustin” page does. However it’s going to take me awhile to type up. I’ve tried it before but only made it half way through before wondering what else to list.

So here is your chance to help out! If there is anything fun you’d like to know or hear about, let me know! I’ll try to work it into the list, as long as it isn’t TOO personal. Try and leave any responses/requests the comments to this post rather than the shout box as that fills up and older comments wind up deleted.

PS Yes I already know what you want to know David!

Supernatural

Did anyone watch “Supernatural” tonight on the WB? It’s Jensen Ackles (Ex Eric Brady) new show. I was doing work as it was on but somewhat followed. I don’t know, it was kinda odd. Very X-Files in a way I guess, but I never got into the X-Files myself. The show repeats on Thursday. I will watch it again when it reruns and actually just watch this time.
