Whenever I tell people “Oh I’m trying to lose some weight and get into better shape” they look at me and say “But you are so skinny, you don’t need to lose any weight!” Oh if only they could see me naked (this is not an invitation to a request by the way)! All my fat seems to go right to my midsection, which I can disguise pretty well with clothes. They are usually equally as shocked to hear recently I almost hit 170 pounds. I think I was up to 166.7pnds when I realized I had to do something. Most people say “No way were you that heavy!” My loving BF said “You weigh more than me?” My BF is close to 6 feet, whereas I am a measly 5 feet and about 6 1/2 inches. I’m also thin framed, so that much weight on me isn’t good. Ideally I should be around the 145 zone.
After about 2 weeks of trying the Suzanne Somers thing (with some cheating on the weekends which I will admit to) I am down from 166.7pnds to about 161.2pnd. Hrmph! Most people say they lose 10 pounds easily within one week of doing this (though they may not have cheated like I did). I am beginning to come to the conclusion that Suzanne Somers diet plan probably isn’t for me. In fact, the no-carbs diet in general probably isn’t for me. I honestly don’t know how anyone can last long on these diets, they limit what you can eat. I like salads, but there is no way in hell I’m ordering a salad for dinner in a restaurant. While I like chicken, unless I’ve had it before at a restaurant I’m always wary of ordering it cause it can be easily screwed up.
Last spring/summer I went from about this same weight to 145ish by November. I just completely blew it all over the holidays, right before my January cruise of course. I lost the weight simply by counting calories and going to the gym regularly. I even allowed myself cheat days on the weekend every now and then. I was also eating carbs all the time! I had either cereal or waffles for breakfast every fricken morning, and some kind of sandwich for lunch (usually a veggie burger). For dinner I was normally eating frozen lean cuisine meals, not the best thing in the world I’ll admit.
I’ve decided up until Friday I’m going to continue to do my best not to eat carbs. Come this weekend I’m not going to worry too much about what I eat, but I won’t completely overdo it in New Orleans. I imagine most of the carbs will come from Cafe Du Monde 🙂 For dinner I will stick to blackened or cajun chickens, yum yum! After New Orleans I’m going back to the plan I was on last summer, with some modifications. I’ll keep track of my calories, but I’ll also eliminate unnecessary carbs when I can. No white bread, pastas and sugars. I will allow myself whole wheat pastas and breads (in moderation), and when I want that sandwich or burger I’ll have it. I’ll just try not to have them every day and do my best to try and get it on whole wheat bread or buns if I’m at a restaurant.
Just for fun I’m throwing in an animation I made of myself today playing Dance Dance Revolution! I’ll admit, an animated image is way old fashion, but I have yet to sit down and play with the movie editor for my camera (the movie files are way to big without some kind of optimization). I considered doing a YouTube, but I don’t think the entire YouTube community needs to see me shaking my ass to some lame cover of “Genie in a Bottle.” You however get to be privy to that!

I love the animation!! I have always had the best luck losing weight when I allow myself one “free” day a week, then I can eat whatever I have been craving. When you are in Nawlins, have a benignet (or however you spell it), at Cafe du Monde for me…actually have 2 or 3:)
The animation is great! I love Dance Dance Revolution, but I’m no good at it…except maybe for comic relief. Good plan to not worry about your diet in New Orleans. There’s too much good food! Have a beignet and a coffee for me too – one can never have too many!!
I’ve never played, but suspect that if I wore socks while doing it I’d probably slip and fall on my ass. *G*
My diet is essentially the same as the one you’re planning on switching to. That is, when I follow it. I’ve been a very bad girl for awhile now. Hood’s new New England Creamery style ice cream (black raspberry) and Munchos have just come calling too frequently lately. Especially the ice cream, because just now I’m sick with some sort of sore throat problem. It’s an excuse, but it’s my own. ;0) Soon as I’m better though I plan to go back on my diet and start working out again. Much easier to do without Danny here to jump on me or bark while I work out…
Actually my mat isn’t slick at all, it’s pretty grippy. Plus without socks your feet seem to stick to it.
Breyers has carb smart ice cream which is pretty good, and Klondike and Skinny cow how low fat and sugar free ice cream which is great.
I thought you had a tatto on your other leg.
It’s on the side rather than the back 🙂 It’s facing the couch.
I went on a diet over a year ago and dropped a lot of weight. I freaked out a little after turning 30 and decided there had to be some changes. I knew I couldn’t stick to the no carb diets. I did the old fashioned reducing calorie diet. The most dramatic thing I did was to give up all deep fried food. The first few weeks was really hard- I could smell the food in my car driving by fast food restraunts. I don’t even want it anymore. Usually I eat one big meal a day (usually a late lunch) and something small the rest of the day. I find the most difficult part now is maintaining the same weight- I know how to gain weight and lose it, but keeping it the same is hard. Good Luck!
