Earthquake!

So if you live on the East Coast, you probably felt the quake we had today. Even though there is a giant fault line under the east coast, we haven’t historically been prone to quakes . . . till now? Over the past few years my mom/brother in Virginia have felt very tiny ones. I was home once with the dogs and I slept through one, but the dogs woke my mom up right before it happened. She said it just felt like a large truck going up the street.

However there was no sleeping through this one . . . mainly cause I was awake. It did center in Virginia, but was felt up and down the coast. Facebook friends all the way in Oh Canada! even felt it. West Coasters are of course laughing at us, saying our quake is nothing. But for those who never experienced something like this, it was shocking to scary.

To be honest, at first I thought my cats were fighting. My PCs started rocking as I sat in front of them (yes them) and I starting trying to find where the cats under the table fighting were. When I realized I couldn’t find them, I looked around. I noticed the bookshelf was rocking, and the hanging lights in the kitchen were swaying. So I texted John “Did we just have an earthquake?” . . . but before he could answer my brother in Virginia IM’d me that they just got hit too. It took 5 minutes for my facebook to begin exploding, and now the news has taken over TV.

Wow my first earthquake! We might have another due to the laughter from those on the West Coast ;)

Just Checking In! Mini-Movie Thoughts . . .

Figured I’d just make a quick check-in post. I’m currently in Virginia getting some unfortunate cavities taken care of.

My tomato garden has become a jungle at home. But even though I have 30+ tomatoes, they are all still green! I might have to open up a lesbian railroad cafe soon!

I’ve seen a few movies over the past month I haven’t reviewed, so here are my quick thoughts on them . . .

Green Lantern – Not as horrible as everyone made it out to be! A bit long, needed some editing, and too much of an origins story. The only real action sequence is at the very end of the movie.

Horrible Bosses – Horrible dirty comedy, nothing terribly special or remarkable. Jennifer Aniston steals the whole movie, and she’s not in it all that much.

Transformers 3 – A-maze-ing! Of course I saw it in Imax and 3D. Definitely the best of all the movies, and more than makes up for that crap fest that was number 2.

Harry Potter on Friday, and I finally have Insidious waiting for me at home on DVD :)

Launched!

It’s only a month and a half late, but i finally got the farm’s new webpage up! As I’m working for free (actually on my dime, since I bought all the software needed and pay the hosting bill) I am not feeling too guilty about being so late.

In truth the only person I’d really feel the need to bring that up to is the “asshat,” cause I don’t really mind spending money on John and things I enjoy doing :) Lets not tell the “asshat” that though :) Not that he’d care one way or the other, he’d make some excuse up in his head to justify it all.

Checking In On Easter!

Yeah, I know, I haven’t blogged in like 20 days. Bad me! I have posted some photos on my Tumblr blog though. So what’s been going on? Working like mad as usual. Coming up on my last week of teaching for the semester. I’m taking off the summer, as Fall is going to be a madhouse for me. I’ve also got a work/school conference coming up at the end of May.

Today I’m cooking Easter dinner. Ham steak slices with maple glaze and pineapple rings in the crock-pot. I hope it’s yummy! A bunch of side dishes to reheat, and then some biscuits to make. Did I mention I got an ice cream maker? Yum! John especially loves the cheesecake ice cream I made (but it was a bit of work honestly). Strawberry season at the farm is in a few months, so we’ll be having fresh strawberry ice cream then.

Otherwise, not much else to report. I’m getting my tomato planters ready for this year. I cleaned the old ones out, and just started seedlings in my house. John called me all sorts of mean names, because they only have 700 tomato plants across the street and I’m planting them from scratch like a goober. I said it was “funner” this way. Truth be told I’ll probably use ones from a nursery for my Topsy Turvy and put the seedlings in pots to see if they will grow.

Over-N-Out!

9 Years!

John left me a rose by my Mac on Saturday for when I woke up, for our anniversary. We’ve been together 9 years today! (Though we met about a month prior, today was the day we became an official couple).

Trekking Along

I know it’s been a week or so since I blogged. Bad me! I’ve just been really busy as usual. I’ve been putting photos on my Tumblr Blog as often as I can. I did find a plugin that I believe will let me bring those posts into this blog . . . but I haven’t decided if I want to do that. The Tumblr Blog is mainly a photo blog, so I kinda want to keep it separate.

Not much has been happening worth blogging about really. Hopefully that will change. This coming weekend is Monster Mania, then next week is Spring Break. Finally somewhat of a break from work . . . but I still have stuff to do as usual. Still I plan to make room for some fun :)

An End To The Boycott?

So I have been thinking a lot recently of ending my boycott of “the establishment.”It’s been 1 1/2 years, I think I’ve made my point. Though in truth, the person who the main point was aimed at could give two shits if I’m there or not. He’d rather I’m not their and around his kid’s I’m sure. I honestly wonder if he even noticed my absence. I am fairly sure if I showed up, and he started shit, something along the lines of “you’re here every day doing nothing” might come up. He’s one of those people that what he’s convinced himself of is so. Hopefully though others might be more inclined to stand up to his shit. Otherwise should I end my boycott, and go over there, Mr. Nice guy is gone. If he treats me bad, I will explode on him and not keep it inside like I had for so long. I don’t care who I cut his balls off in front of, metaphorically so to speak. Be it his employees, his kids or customers. I will swiftly castrate him.

One of the reasons I’ve considered ending it, aside from the fact that I just miss seeing John during the day as well as others over there, is that I just spent a good deal of money upgrading all my website designing related software. I had been planning a total revamp of the farm’s website before I ended up starting my boycott. I left their site un-updated for a good 6 months before agreeing to take it over again. I posted about this awhile back. However I have not had the time to completely revamp it from scratch. I am however tired of the design as is. They open in a month, and I wanted to get a new website up by then. However I knew I wouldn’t have time to do one from scratch, so I got a template I could modify. I actually like the template and the program (RapidWeaver) a lot, though it’s not the program I had started using a year ago (Freeway, which gives way more freedom in design). Still, I like what I’ve been able to do quickly, and this way I can get them a new look and a better page up by opening date. Oh how I wish I had these kind of programs when I was still running the soap page! Oh I have been watching “Days” again, more on that in another post!

Of course the site has to be kept up to date with content. I didn’t spend money on all this for a bland site. Over the past year trying to get info out of John alone to update the site with has been HARD. I want new photos, I want all the info on what’s new. When I was there, I could get this. Since I haven’t been there, it’s like pulling teeth. I can’t magically make content! The only way to get it is to do it myself, which of course means going into said establishment. So I guess I’m looking at finally returning.

Though as I said, should someone open a can of shit, I’ll be opening a can of whoop-ass and stuffing them inside. Don’t think I also haven’t just thought of deleting their site before. Did I ever mention it’s on my server and I have been paying for it for years? Yeah . . . . sometimes the only thing “the ass” understands is the bottom dollar . . . which I can easily cost them if need be to make a point. Though I am not that mean, I’d rather just cut his balls off in public :P

Superbowl Sunday . . . . Which Means GLEE!

It’s Superbowl Sunday! In fact the Superbowl is on right now as I write this . . . though not in our house. We could careless :) The only thing Superbowl Sunday means in this house is that “Glee” is back right after the game. Woohoo! Time to get our “Thriller” on.

Let’s see, what to blog about? I’m trying to be good about my diet and fitness again. I’m down two pounds, and I’m finally back at the gym. I actually just started back today after 2+ weeks of not going because of that nasty cold I caught right after the cruise. I’m sure though it helped with those 2 pounds, but I fortunately got off the ship weighing about the same as I got on. Amazing I know!

The snow is FINALLY starting to melt. I can now walk the dogs further than 10 feet from the house. Our driveway had been a giant sheet of ice all week. NOT fun, especially with two little dogs who think they are sled dogs pulling me their master. No mush, stop! I almost fell far too many times this week.

However as our current snow melts, it looks like we may be blessed with more this week. They are calling for a Nor’Eastern at the end of this week, and should it hit land and not go out to sea, we might be in big trouble. These are the storms which resulted in the 2 foot blizzards we had last winter. Who am I kidding, I still love the snow, so bring it on. The doggies love the snow too :)

If you haven’t checked out my Tumblr blog, it’s linked to the left in the side bar right under the Blogs header – which comes after the photo of moi. I’m having a lot of fun with it, but it’s mostly just photos I post from my phone. Still, I’m loving it. I’m also still trying to find a theme for it I like, so don’t be surprised if it changes style a lot.

I’m still on the fence about Twitter. I actually did get my first Twitter name back finally. I can integrate it both into the Tumblr blog as well as the side bar here like I used to. I just haven’t bit the bullet and jumped back in. I’m still trying to be good, not wanting it to take over my life again like it did :)

I

I admit it, I am a bad blogger. I am always falling behind with posts for numerous reasons, be it sickness, work or lack of ideas. My mom emails me asking how I’m doing, because I haven’t updated my blog and it’s the only way she can keep up with me!

I have for awhile thought about biting the bullet and going back to Twitter, because then I could at least have tweets in the side bar with small blurbs about what I’ve been up to.

At the same time, I’ve been acquiring all these really fun “sharing” apps for my phone, such as Instagram and Hipstamatic, which allow you to take fun and creative photos easily. I really wanted a way to link them to my blog, but they only work with Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr. Sure there is a WordPress blogging platform for the phone I could use, but it is frustrating and always buggy.

So I finally bit the bullet and set up a Tumblr account. It’s free, and I had a domain name I never used that I could point at it. I’ve added the link to the side bar under the “Blogs” header. I JUST set it up, so the domain name may take awhile to point towards it and may or may not be working for everyone yet.

I will of course still use this as my main blog, for sharing actual real posts, when I sit down and write them. The Tumblr blog is mainly for updates on the go (would have been great while on vacation!) as well as photo sharing and iPhone apps. They aren’t meant to be full on blog posts, just fun shared things. Small fun updates between when I finally make updates here :)

Post Vacation Sickness!

As usual, after finally returning home, I got sick with a nasty cold within a day or two. This tends to happen a lot to me when I travel. Plane Germs! I think a lot of it was due to a very long travel day getting home, between getting off the ship, waiting at the airport for 5+ hours, then driving home another 3 all in one day. We used to always try and break up returning home, for example stay a day after the cruise and then fly/drive the next day. Next year I think that will be the plan if possible.

Being sick and having to go straight back to work was NOT fun at all. John of course is off work right now, and the tables are turned. I have a very early morning class this semester, so I’m getting out of bed at hours not normal for me at all. He’s often still asleep when I leave for work now.

I’m finally about over the cold, and now we are bracing for the first big storm of the year. We already got about an inch or two this morning, but the big dump is heading towards us now and will go all night. They can’t decide how much we are going to get, and keep increasing our totals. It’s now at 8-12+, with 3 inches an hour and the threat of thundersnow. Weeeee! I love snowstorms, but this one looks to be a scary storm with how fast it is going to be coming down, and the threat of losing power overnight is not fun.

I am hoping for a snow day tomorrow :)
