Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows

That is the name of the final book. I read this last night but failed to mention it. I’m sure Harry fans already heard about it. I don’t know . . . . sounds kinda morbid. I thought Dumbledore’s death was bad enough. I fear who might die in this one!

The Whole World Is Gay

At least that is what it seems like with the news lately.

Neil Patrick Harris from “Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle”

Neil Patrick Harris is gay – and wants to quell recent reports that he had denied it. The actor tells PEOPLE exclusively:

“The public eye has always been kind to me, and until recently I have been able to live a pretty normal life. Now it seems there is speculation and interest in my private life and relationships.

“So, rather than ignore those who choose to publish their opinions without actually talking to me, I am happy to dispel any rumors or misconceptions and am quite proud to say that I am a very content gay man living my life to the fullest and feel most fortunate to be working with wonderful people in the business I love.”

I don’t know if this will come to a shock to many or not. Word around the web is that good old Doogie was never actually in the closet and was very open and out while in New York on the theater circuit. It wasn’t a secret, nobody just ever bothered to talk about it. I guess the rumor mill got churning so Doogie squashed it.

Another D

This is from the American Family ASSociation . . .

(AgapePress) - Many American scientists are excited that “Lucy,” an allegedly 3.2-million-year-old skeleton, will be coming to the United States next year. Creationists, however, are predicting that Lucy’s tour will be much more about promoting the theory of evolution than about expanding real scientific knowledge.

Um, do they realize what morons they look like for making this statement? They make the claim that scientists don’t want to expand real scientific knowledge in the same paragraph in which they cast doubt on the age of Lucy. In all my years in anthropology I have never heard anyone claims Lucy wasn’t as old as she’s been dated to be. Then again we are probably talking about people who still think the world is only 6000 years old.

NJ Gay Marriage Ruling

I’m about to get political :)

New Jersey’s highest court opened the door Wednesday to making the state the second in the nation to allow gay marriage, ruling that lawmakers must offer same-sex couples either marriage or something like it, such as civil unions.

In a ruling that fell short of what either side wanted or most feared, the state Supreme Court declared 4-3 that gay couples are entitled to the same rights as heterosexual ones. The justices gave lawmakers 180 days to rewrite the laws.

The ruling is similar to the 1999 high-court ruling in Vermont that led the state to create civil unions, which confer all of the rights and benefits available to married couples under state law.

“Although we cannot find that a fundamental right to same-sex marriage exists in this state, the unequal dispensation of rights and benefits to committed same-sex partners can no longer be tolerated under our state Constitution,” Justice Barry T. Albin wrote for the four-member majority.

The court said the Legislature “must either amend the marriage statutes to include same-sex couples or create a parallel statutory structure” that gives gays all the privileges and obligations married couples have.

The three dissenters argued that the majority did not go far enough. They demanded full marriage for gays.

I’m sure everyone has heard about today’s ruling. At this point the NJ legislature has 180 days to figure out what to do. They basically have three options as far as I can tell:

1) Give gays and lesbians full marriage rights and call it marriage.

2) Give gays and lesbians full marriage rights and call it marriage, but pass a law limiting marriage in NJ to NJ residents.

3) Give gays and lesbians full marriage rights, but call it civil unions.

Call me pessimistic but I find it hard that they will grant #1 because NJ has no law making it illegal for out of staters to be married here. Thus it could create a problem for other states, even if they have a DOMA like law on the books. They sure as hell won’t pass #2 as NJ can’t give up the draw of Atlantic City and “Las Vegas” style weddings. Therefore we’ll probably end up with #3, civil unions.

You know what? If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck just call it a duck! I find it ridiculous to make a separate but equal marriage for gays and call it civil unions. Honestly what is the point? To try and appease the religious right? Pffft! If civil unions carry the same rights and privileges as marriage than every excuse for banning gays from marrying still hold true for giving them civil unions. Far too many times I’ve heard someone say “I’m against gay marriage because it opens the door to things like polygamy or marrying children. However I do support civil unions.” What a circular argument, as if the person didn’t even consider polygamists or pedophiles would argue for civil unions. The only reason I can fathom for saying one supports civil unions but not gay marriage is religion. I thought we had freedom of religion in this country? Several religions support gay marriage you know!

I think Wanda Sykes said it best in her last HBO special “If you don’t believe in same-sex marriage then don’t marry someone of the same sex!”

Those Marriage Amendments Are Doing Great!

All those constitutional bans against gay marriage in order to protect traditional marriage are apparently working wonders . . . .

It is by no means dead, but for the first time, a new survey has shown that traditional marriage has ceased to be the preferred living arrangement in the majority of US households.

SNIP

The findings, which were released in August but largely escaped public attention until now because of the large volume of data, indicated that marriage did not figure in nearly 55.8 million American family households, or 50.2 percent.

SNIP

By comparison, the number of traditional households with married couples at their core stood at slightly more than 55.2 million, or 49.8 percent of the total.

I can’t wait to see how groups spin this one. Somehow I’m sure it will still be the fault of gays and evil family hating Democrats. I’ve already heard augments to the like in the past, that it’s Democrats faults that divorce laws were eased and it’s Democrats faults that the morals of our society have gone down hill. If a Democrat told a Republican to jump of a bridge would he? I guess he would, since that is the argument being made by these people.

Madonna and the Muslims

Today on the news I half caught some story about a Mozart opera in Germany that had to be cancelled. The problem? The opera featured props of the severed heads of Jesus, Buddha and Mohamed. The Muslim population went ape shit over this. If you recall recently there was a lot of controversy over some cartoons in papers in Europe, it’s a sacrilege to depict Mohammad in any kind of drawing or sculpture. Well the same thing happened in Germany with this play. Well the person reporting the news story went off on how this play was being shut down because the Muslims didn’t like it, it’s a classical opera, other religious figureheads are also being displayed, yada yada. Basically it was like she was saying “Muslims get over it.” Meanwhile, The American Family ASSociation is currently working a boycott of NBC. Why? Because Madonna has the balls to mock the crucifixion of Jesus in her concert, which NBC is planning to air in November.

You know what? If you don’t like something. Don’t watch it. If you feels it insults you or your faith, DON’T WATCH IT. The 700 Club insults me but instead of organizing a boycott to get it taken off the air I just don’t watch it!

BTW, I saw the concert, and what MOST of the reports don’t tell you is that while Madonna is on the “mirrored” cross and singing “Live To Tell,” above her is a number that grows ever larger. Eventually it reaches an absurd total and you are informed that this is the number of children orphaned by AIDS in Africa. Images are shown on television screens, as are numbers and websites where you can find out more information and how to help. Kinda changes the WHOLE scene doesn’t it? You know if it was Mel Gibson up there singing the song from “Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome” people would be saying “Wow Mel’s so great helping those kids out.” However since it’s Madonna they have to attack her.

Call Me Now Babies, I

I’m sure ALL of you recognize this lady. Yes my babies, it is Miss Cleo. Call her now to learn your future! Actually don’t, she isn’t working through the 1-900 numbers anymore because of lawsuits.

However she is in the news again. The Advocate has a story about Miss Cleo, who has come out. Yes, Miss Cleo is a lesbian. Did you see this coming babies?

I actually miss Miss Cleo. When I had insomnia problems I would often watch her infomercials. If she wasn’t on talking about her service and amazing radio DJs then I could always watch an infomercial of some Ron Popeil products. Of course we can’t talk about infomercials without mentioning the king of them, the great “Amazing Discoveries” infomercial which featured all sorts of things like DiDi7 knockoffs, as well as amazing solvents that would allow you to easily wipe paint off of furniture. No more scraping!

Lance Bass Is Gay

Some on the web are calling it “Hollywood’s Worst Kept Secret.” Lance has been spotted for months at notoriously gay events and hang-outs, but nothing has been said publicly about it. Well finally Lance Bass of N’Synch has come out!

Lance Bass, band member of ‘N Sync, says he’s gay and in a “very stable” relationship with a reality show star. Bass, who formed ‘N Sync with Justin Timberlake, JC Chasez, Joey Fatone and Chris Kirkpatrick, tells People magazine that he didn’t earlier disclose his sexuality because he didn’t want to affect the group’s popularity.

The singer says he’s in a “very stable” relationship with 32-year-old actor Reichen Lehmkuhl, winner of season four of CBS’ “Amazing Race.”

Don

Author JK Rowling has announced that she will kill off two characters in the last Harry Potter book!

Noooooooooo! Most people expect Harry to be killed, don’t do it JK! Don’t kill Harry palease! I don’t want some sad ending to a series I have loved all this time. I think one of the deaths will be Voldemort for sure. The other? Possibly one of the other kids, though Snape might be more fitting. I have a feeling though Snape is going to turn out to be the unlikely hero of the whole series and the next headmaster of Hogwarts, though that should go to Mcgonagall.

Your thoughts?
