Here They Go Again!

Hoping on my political soapbox again, though this time I don’t know whether to be angry and “preach” or simply laugh at the absurdity.

The AFA (The American Family ASSociation) has called for a boycott by its members of McDonald’s, because McDonald’s supports “the homosexual agenda.” Apparently McDonald’s donated some money to a gay and lesbian association in California and sent a representative to sit on one of their councils or board meetings. The particular details I’m not completely sure of (even though I’ve read the news bits). The AFA asked McDonald’s not to do this and to withdraw, but McDonald’s refused. They fired back a letter saying how they support diversity in the workplace as well as hundreds of various organizations and charities, blah blah blah, yada yada yada. Basically McDonald’s seem to tell the AFA to “suck it.” Well in response, the AFA has called for a boycott, apparently under the assumption they are going to take McDonald’s down. Ummm . . . yeah . . . not likely!

You can read hundred’s of comments from their members/supporters of this boycott here. It pains me to link to their site, but in this case the absurdity of some of these comments are just astounding. They are also hilarious and in some cases just plain sad.

I especially love the comments from people who dine at McDonald’s several times a week and will no longer be taking their family there. Well if one thing comes from their boycott it will be improved health! Oh wait, they’ve all stated they’ll just go eat at Burger King or Chic Fillet, so never mind. Clearly many of these Christian’s don’t realize Chic Fillet is founded by a Mormon, whom I’m sure they also believe will burn in hell.

Also is it just me, or did McDonald’s stop being a family establishment eons ago? I know once upon a time you could have birthday parties and what not there, but now it’s simply about the fast food. Eons ago I’m sure their food was a lot healthier too! One of the reasons (on a very short list) you probably go there is because they hand you the food and like most people, you can leave with it and quickly. Some of the comments make it seem like McDonald’s is the place to go to grow closer to your family. Um, go to a real restaurant if you want family bonding time!

Also I have to laugh at the fact that some of these people comment as if McDonald’s is somehow a real meal and possibly good for you. I mean if you think there is anything healthy in McDonald’s aside from the bottled water, well you are mistaken. Even their salads are bad for you. McDonald’s is not a healthy meal you give your family, it’s the meal you give them when you don’t have time to cook (which I’m sure many of these people should be against, as women should be in the kitchen at all times serving their man and family). It’s also junk food. I love McDonald’s food as much as the rest, but I know it’s absolutely 100% not good for me at all. If I eat it it’s usually because I’m craving it. I want it, so I get it. It’s pure 100% indulgence . . . hmm I’m pretty sure there are several hundred quotes in the bible as to why that’s in fact a sin.

Honestly, I suspect half the people claiming they will in fact boycott McDonald’s and not eat their again won’t last more than 2 weeks without going. Wouldn’t that make them liars? OMG, that’s in the top 10 of things not to do!

Hilarious.

I can’t tell you how grateful I am that you wrote this post. I caved- for the first time in months- and had dinner from there last night. I was feeling guilty, but now you’ve made it alright not only from a diet front, but also because I have now supported a good cause! *G*

Have I told you lately that I love you? ;0)
