It seems my allergies are in simpatico with poor Princess. The past two weeks I’ve been clogged up, post nasal drip, pretty much in hell. Aside from the fact that it’s the season and the crops are all blooming, I’ve been trying to find out why I’m so miserable in our house but okay outside of it! The BF, not wanting to waste the money using the AC, had been opening the bedroom window at night for cool air. This of course is bad for me because there is a farm field right outside our window! I put an end to that last week and stuck an air filter in our room to try and clean it out, but it hasn’t helped. Today I cleaned the whole house as best I could and also turned out the house fan. Since we haven’t had the AC or the heat going, there has been a lack of air circulation. I turned on the house fan today to get things moving, to see if that actually helps at all. Yeah I know technically that would churn up the dust more, but it would also force it through filters. I also changed the nasty dirty filter in the furnace thingy! Ew! When the hell was the last time it was changed? I don’t know honestly. I’m hoping that will do the trick. So far I am feeling better than I was last night for sure.

Meanwhile poor Princess, today I noticed her scratching, shaking her head a lot, then I saw she was holding one ear down. Yup, it’s that time again for her too. Her allergies are acting up and her ear was inflamed and all, which seems to happen around this time every year. I fortunately have a bottle of prednisone and gave her a pill. By the end of the day the ear was back to normal and her itching under control. She’s due for another now actually, I’ll give it to her as soon as this post is done.

Changing the subject somewhat, but staying on ears, I ve decided I want new earrings, as well as more. Currently I have 2 in each lobe and 1 in my left cartilage. I want 1 more in the cart below the current one and 1 more in the other lobe (I have to keep the sides different numbers, I don’t know why, having even numbers in both seems so uncool to me). I’ve wanted to get more for awhile, I just never have. My first cart one took forever to heal, I think that’s why. I think I might do it this summer though. I also want different earrings, or should I say colors. I have the plain old silver/steel loops you get at the piercing parlors. I want some color, and am thinking blue on one side and orange on the other (cause the also can’t be the same), assuming i can find orange. I’m sure I can, otherwise I’ll go with black. I’ll probably get the colored earrings first, then the piercings later. Oh and for the curious, I have nothing else pierced! I can barely deal with putting in and taking out earrings, it skeeves me, I don’t know why. So I could not do it anywhere else on my body!

Wii Fit tomorrow! Weeee I’m so excited!

When I find a horror film I like, I like to recommend them, mainly because I find so few new ones worthy of doing so. This weekend I watched “Seance” and loved it!

The film takes place in an old university dorm building, which was once an old apartment building. Five kids stay in the dorm over Thanksgiving break. The dorm is said to be haunted by a little girl who died there years ago. One of the girls staying in the dorms over the break can see her, so her friends who don’t believe her get the idea to hold a seance. Unfortunately they accidentally bring back the spirit of someone they shouldn’t have. Let the terror, and the killings, begin!

The movie is a straight to DVD flick, so don’t expect a huge budget and Hollywood production values. Nevertheless it’s well done, well enough to make it to TV unlike many of the “made at home on a Sony digital cameral” horror movies that end up at my movie store nowadays. The acting is good enough, not stellar, not horrible. The story is pretty predictable, and there is only one cringe worthy gore scene. There aren’t any real “boo” moments either.

At this point you’re probably wondering why I’m even bothering to recommend this apparently mediocre flick. Because it was creepy! This is one of those movies that is great to watch in the dark late at night because it will give you the heebie-jeebies. The characters/ghosts are creepy and that’s what makes it work. Also if you rent it, make sure you don’t turn it off when it hits the credits as there is a little bonus scene in the credits!

Today on the radio I heard a song called “I Kissed A Girl” by Katy Perry and loved it! At first I thought it was a remake of the old Jill Sobule song, but it wasn’t.

I did some searching, her album comes out in June and she has another hilarious song called “Ur So Gay.”

It’s once again time for me to get political! If you haven’t heard the news, well now you have, and you’ll keep hearing about it on tonight’s news as well as tomorrow’s I’m sure. The state of California’s Supreme Court (the majority of whom were republican appointed) struck down the ban on gay marriage in the state, which voters approved in 2000.

Of course while I’m happy about the news, it also has me worried. In New Jersey our courts and legislature are pretty much set to rule that their “civil union” compromise to marriage here has pretty much been a failure all around. However the governor refuses do this during an election year. Why? Obviously because the republicans would use it against him and any other democrats.

That of course is what has me worried, this has come in an election year. I have NO doubt, NONE at all that the republicans and McCain will use this as a wedge issue. There are many conservatives out there that do not like McCain at all because of some of his policies and stances, so I have no doubt this is something he can use to reach out to them. Frankly it worked before and I’m sure it will work again. I just feel this doesn’t bode well for the democrats, who in my opinion have already shot themselves in the foot as is with the whole superdelegate thing and Obama versus Hillary debate.

Back to California, it’s still not a done deal. There will be challenges, there is already talk of going to the Supreme Court (who always seems to reject hearing these cases saying it’s up the the states to decide). There is also a move to have a gay marriage ban put on the ballot there in November, one that this time would put it in the state’s constitution. If that happens I hope a large portion of gays and lesbians in California would consider leaving the state. Could you imagine what would happen to Hollywood if all the make-up artists, hairdressers, clothing designers and not to mention closeted actors just left the state? Movies and TV shows would end up shutting down! It would be like the writer’s strike, but possibly forever for some.

I am also hoping for the day when someone in either a state or the US senate will have the guts to introduce their own “marriage protection” bills. These ones however would serve to protect marriage from further being destroyed by those who can marry. I mean if people are so gung-ho on “protecting marriage” then where are the bills to ban divorce? How about making spousal abuse, verbal, mental AND physical punishable by prison time? Let’s also send adulterers to prison. You have to wait 7 days to buy a hand-gun, how about a marriage waiting period as well? Of course nobody would have the guts to introduce these bills, because they infringe on the rights of the majority, who would no doubt go apeshiz over them.

I took these photos of Princess and Lance yesterday, engaged in Princess favorite thing to do to him . . . lick his ears! As you can see, Princess enjoys pinning him down and going to town. He’s the only cat that will sit still and let her do it to him.

Oddly enough last night my friends and I were discussing all sorts of topics, one being religion. I had thrown out there it was stupid for us not to think aliens existed, and if they do, did God make them? Well today the Vatican gives us the answer!

Believing that the universe may contain alien life does not contradict a faith in God, the Vatican’s chief astronomer said in an interview published Tuesday.

The Rev. Jose Gabriel Funes, the Jesuit director of the Vatican Observatory, was quoted as saying the vastness of the universe means it is possible there could be other forms of life outside Earth, even intelligent ones.

“How can we rule out that life may have developed elsewhere?” Funes said. “Just as we consider earthly creatures as ‘a brother,’ and ’sister,’ why should we not talk about an ‘extraterrestrial brother’? It would still be part of creation.”

In the interview by the Vatican newspaper L’Osservatore Romano, Funes said that such a notion “doesn’t contradict our faith” because aliens would still be God’s creatures. Ruling out the existence of aliens would be like “putting limits” on God’s creative freedom, he said.

Of course the second part of my statement last night was, if we believe God created the aliens too, then most likely they have their own bible and word of God. Then comes the big question, whose bible is right? I mean what if there are gay aliens and their bible says that is A-okay, cause that’s how God made you? I wonder if the Vatican thought that far ahead?

So this Friday “Prince Caspian” hits theaters. I had hoped to start reading “The Golden Compass” this weekend, but instead I pulled out “Prince Caspian” to read. I want to remember the story and see how the movie compares to the book. I’m not sure when we’ll actually see it because the BF will be working late Friday and Saturday, and Sunday is the season finale of “Desperate Housewives.” Oy! I guess it gives me a bit more time to finish it, but I’m already 1/3 through the book. I forgot these are essentially kids books and quick reads.

In other news, I’ve become a cooking monster lately. Yes I have in fact been using that GT Xpress I bought. I’ve made cakes, eggs, calzones and even chicken cordon bleu in it! I love it. I’ve also been cooking up a mess of meat lately, as I’ve been trying to limit the carbs I eat. It’s definately helped me lose some weight, and with the Wii Fit coming next week, I expect to be a lean mean sex machine soon I’ve been cooking steaks (which I’ve never done before and have gotten better at) and even ribs! I have however been bad and started cooking cheesecakes, which the BF seems to be eatting more than I do.

So I considered, for a moment making this my first video blog. But I decided not to, mainly cause I want to post this now and I don’t want to spend all night editing a video, which I would and would encourage my insomnia.

The BF’s brother is here this weekend, and as always he parks his car as close as possible to the house as possible. Why I don’t know, as where he should park it really is only about 10 steps more from his car to the front door. The problem with where he parks? By now he should know better. Let’s go to the diagram.

First my apologies, this post is being made late at night, and thus the picture was taken then. I did my best, but the lighting conditions are obviously not optimal. The arrows and text aren’t my best work either, but for this hour they’ll suffice.

As you can see, we have a garage. In this garage is the Honda CRV, which is a car that sits a bit above the ground. What this photo doesn’t show is the line of trees to the right of the garage, as well as the slight downwards grass slop off the main driveway. Conclusion, pulling out of the garage and turning right to turn around is not an option.

Notice to the left of the garage is a fairly large area, all graveled. Labeled is the optimal parking zone. Why is this optimal? Simple, it isn’t in the way of backing out of the garage! Because when pulling out of the garage, one doesn’t have to go backwards and forwards 2-3 times in order to avoid collision to turn around and get the hell out of the driveway and onto the road.

So where does the BF’s brother always park, the optimal hit zone. This is also, if I may point out, a BLIND spot! When backing out of the garage, you can’t see a car here very easily, especially one that obviously is low to the ground when in a CRV! Furthermore when one is not used to cars being there, one can forget to remember a car is there.

Can you see where we are going with this post? Yes I backed into the BF’s brother’s car today. I put a noticeable dent in the trunk. The BF’s car is fine, it was the spare tire that did it. Let me also say I was only backing up at about 5 mph when this happened, and wondered what the hell did I just hit? Then it hit me (no pun intended), oh yeah the BF’s brother’s car.

Do I feel bad? Of course I do! You know what makes it a little better? The fact that he knows not to park there! I already backed into the car once before and knocked out his taillight! Even my BF told him this is a really bad place to park, as he’s almost totalled his car. Trust me, the BF pulls out of that garage like a bat out of hell!

You know what else makes me feel not so bad? His comments tonight. “It might be hard to find parts to fix the car, it’s almost 20 years old and they don’t make these cars anymore.” That’s pretty much a clue to get a new car! We aren’t talking about a classic here either. As you can see it’s a Chevy hatchback. Furthermore he has 2 of them. Why you ask? It was in fact a 2 for 1 deal when he bought them. No really, I’m serious so stop laughing. Note, you should probably never buy a car on a 2 for 1 deal. It probably means they really want to get rid of the cars for some reason.

Truth be told, he can probably get one of those dent-be-gone suction cup things from the “As Seen On TV” infomercials and fix it. Truth be told, the car will survive, the BF’s car has more dents and dings in it than this. Truth be told, the car(s) are 20 years old, they aren’t classics by far, so maybe it’s time to get a new car(s).

Yeah I probably shouldn’t be so aggravated or annoyed, especially since it isn’t my car that got dented, but seriously, don’t park your car there when you know it’s not a good spot.

Uhg! Last night I didn’t go to bed till 5:30 am, and I don’t think I actually fell asleep till around 7am! Grrrrr! I only slept till 11am, so one would think I would be dead on my feet. Nope! Stress and work is getting to me again obviously.

Of course rather than try and go to sleep, I decided to try and do something useful like upgrade all my blog software! Not a great thing to start at 4am, especially when you accidentally screw things up and have to get it fixed. I did though, and I’m not liking the new Wordpress 2.5 interface. I will take getting used to. I also added avatars to the comments for people to use, either MyBlogLog or Gravatar should work.

My copies of the “Golden Compass” books all arrived, so I want to start reading them this weekend. I want to see what the hoopla is really about first hand.

I still haven’t edited the Vegas trip videos yet, sorry. I also keep wanting to sit down and make a plain old video blog, but can’t figure out what to talk about. It’s easier to sit here and write/ramble than sit in front of a camera and talk/ramble. Because when you do the later, you really look like and idiot

Last night the BF and I went to see Eddie Izzard’s new stand-up show “Stripped.” No he wasn’t naked, but he wasn’t in drag hence the name. I think he’s a funny man, but some of his humor I just don’t get, and he rambles on a bit. Plus it didn’t help that his new show surrounds the topic of whether there is or isn’t a God. He basically goes through time and the history of man and civilization deconstructing things and making it humorous. However I couldn’t help but pick things apart because some of his “facts” were in fact wrong or exagerated for humour.

Today I ended up playing hookie from school work and went to the movies to see “Iron Man.” I knew I had to go during the day when the kids were in school and most people were at work. Otherwise I would have had to deal with babies crying, rude kids being rowdy and their rude parents talking to each other, the screen or their buddies over the phone. There was about 10 people in the whole theater, which was perfect. The movie was absolutely amazing. Yes the story was pretty predictable, but it was great and worth seeing. Everyone should take a trip to see it, you won’t be disappointed, even if you don’t like superhero movies.

With the day pretty much shot and 2 hours till “Betty” and “Grey’s,” I’m gunna clean up the house and bit then settle in for some TV time. I’ll resume school tomorrow.
