It's not the kids that are dumb, more like the parents. sorry, I was at Wal-Mart today and saw this spoiled brat kid throw the biggest tantrum and his parents just stood there and did nothing. ugghhh!!

Those were some pretty tough questions though for 5th graders, but with technology the way it is with the internet and all, it's no surprise. All I had growing up in school were those big apple monster computers with the green monitors that all you basically could do was play "Oregon Trail" on.

Mmmmm, French onion soup sounds awesome. please share the recipe after you make it.

My 3rd grader asked me to Tivo that show...we watched it this morning and she thought the questions were way too easy, and the grown-ups were dumb. I told her that it was because we learned it so long ago and they are not practical life applications so a lot of grown-ups don't remember that stuff...now she thinks I'm dumb too!

We never learned algebra and geomtry starting in 3rd grade either, but that is when they are starting. Very complex things. And everything that is taught is being taught for the required testing, ie Iowa, Leap and Graduation Exit Exams. In Louisiana, they also start doing accelarated reading which requires to students to be able to read at a certain level before the end of each grade and if that grade is not met, then they do not pass to the next grade. The students are required to read books and take tests on those books to earn the points that they need.

There's nothing wrong with a 'couch day' every now and then. And, Chris & I still have YET to watch American Idol. Ever. We do not care.

Mmm, that soup sounds good. Send some my way!

I didn't watch that show, but perhaps I should to see that sorts of questions are asked. I hadn't really thought about it before, but you know these kids have just learned this info whereas for me at any rate, it's been a very long time. I doubt I'm smarter than them either. At any rate, it would be nice to be impressed by younger generations, to hear something good about future generations instead of the bad one always hears...
