It’s that day that some people look forward to, and some people dread like the black plague. Yes it’s Valentines Day and it’s only a week away! So what are your feelings on that oh so special holiday? As an adult I never really got into Valentines Day. I haven’t always had someone to celebrate it with, and when I didn’t it really didn’t bother me. I used to go out with friends or roommates and have a blast on V-Day. I think Valentines Day was the most fun when you were a kid. Remember you would make your little shoe box in school and cover it with red, white, pink and purple construction paper and hearts. Then on V-Day everyone would go around and put cute little Superfriends or Care Bear Valentines into it, often with those wretched heart candies that say “I HEART YOU” on them. That’s when Valentines Day was truly fun!

  1. I still have some of those valentines. Now I get to do it again with my son, except now it’s called Friendship day. Oh and those Care Bear cards are still out there though my son chose the Harley Davidson ones!! Don’t remember those when I was litte! Agree about not as much fun as an adult. My husband is sometimes romantic. He trys!

  2. I always felt bad on Valentines Day as a kid,, there was always someone who had (what seemed like) a million cards,, and always some poor kid who got none. We didn’t do boxes, we had oversized envelopes on a bulletin board, and all through the day people anonymously put cards in. Well,, not cards exactly,, but those little paper punch out ones. The trick for me was to get as many as I could into my (at the time) secret crush’s envelope without making it tooooooo obvious. Now I am married, I dont do Valentines, I have hubby and daughter with birthdays right before and right after, so Valentines gets lost in the middle.

  3. I miss being a kid during Valentine’s Day. My son’s class hasn’t sent anything home so I don’t know if they are celebrating it.(Stupid schools are worrying about sexual harrasment. Hello, they are kids!) My hubby will do something he is overly romantic at times. I like the funny cards he likes the mushy mushy mushy cards.

  4. I love Valentines Day. Me and my husband are not all that romantic now that we have three kids. But on Valentines Day my Husband knows he had better get me atleast see’s candies!! That is a must!! As for my son, I am always excited to see what he did in his class party. I always want to read all of his little Valentine cards, they are so cute.

  5. Screw the moms who have time to bake goodies and have their kids make personalized Valentine’s Cards, not the store bought character ones! They ruin the Holiday for us parents who run to Walgreen’s an hour before school and have our kids sit and write them out as they eat their cheerios. So, I can’t get mad at my husband when he buys my card the day of…..

  6. I loved Valentines Day as a kid! Every since then, only First year university (in rez) we did the lil card exchanging.

Other than that I really haven’t had someone to celebrate it with. And the time I did, stuff just went horribly wrong (ie. ending up at McDonalds one year )

This year Im writing a midterm and then holding a bakesale. hurrah!

  7. I tend to resent Valentines Day, sure it is nice to do something with the person you love, but if you truely love someone, shouldn’t the 13th or the 15th or the 28th be a day to celebrate too? I HATE the jewelery comercials too. All they do is make women think that Jewlery is what they need to feel loved and men feel that jewlery is the only way to express themselves. Makes me so mad. I don’t want 500$ on my finger or neck… I’d take a walk around the block with our dog over that any day!
